About This Tour
Camel Riding Safari Dubai
For a 3 thousand years before the first 4×4 ever deflated its tyres at the edge of the sand, there was exactly one way to cross the Arabian Desert, and it’s still the best way to actually meet it. Our Camel Riding Safari is a genuine guided camel trek through the dunes outside Dubai a proper ride measured in distance and quiet, not the five minute photo loop bolted onto most desert tours.
Desert Leap operates this experience under a DTCM (Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing) licence and a DET (Department of Economy and Tourism) licence credentials no competitor displays publicly.
Bedouin culture shaped how this animal was used for transport, trade, and survival across the Dubai desert. The camel ride sits inside Desert Leap’s wider desert safari experience, not as a standalone product. Guests ride along a flat sandy path near the Lahbab red dunes, handler led, on a saddle with front and back handles.
The pace is the point. With no engine, the desert opens up: you hear the wind work the ridgelines, notice the beetle tracks and the ghaf trees, and watch the light move across the sand the way travellers on this exact terrain watched it for centuries. Our guides many from families who kept camels long before tourism did share the heritage as you ride: how Bedouin caravans navigated, what the animals meant to desert life, and why Emiratis still call the camel Ata Allah, “God’s gift.” It’s the most culturally rooted experience we offer, and the one guests describe as “peaceful” more than any other word.
We run two departures, and choosing between them is the only hard decision. The morning trek rides out in soft early light when the dunes are cool and untracked the gentler choice in every season and the only one we recommend in summer. The sunset trek crosses the dunes as they turn gold, then red, and times its final ridge for the sun touching the horizon the romantic’s pick and the photographer’s, too. (If dawn itself is what calls you, our Sunrise Desert Safari pairs that hour with dune bashing instead.)
Who books this tour? Travellers who want the desert without the adrenaline, first: seniors, multi generation families, and anyone for whom dune bashing in a 4×4 is a hard no this is the desert experience with no engine, no drops, and no motion sickness. Families with young children, since kids ride securely with a parent and the camels are famously patient. Culture focused visitors who’d rather understand the desert than race across it. And couples a two person caravan at sunset needs no further explanation.
Want the trek and an evening? Our Camel Riding Safari with BBQ Dinner extends the sunset departure into a full desert camp night with dinner and live shows the gentlest complete evening we run. And if you decide you’d like the engines after all, the classic Evening Desert Safari and the Dune Bashing Dubai tour are a click away. For groups wanting a caravan entirely to themselves, private treks can be arranged through our Private Desert Safari team.
Slow, quiet, and four thousand years in the making. The desert’s original ride is still its best kept secret.

Frequently Asked Questions
A Desert Leap Safari camel safari includes hotel pickup and drop-off from Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman, a guided camel ride, dune bashing in a Toyota Land Cruiser 4×4, sandboarding, henna painting, falcon photography, Arabic coffee (Gahwa), Medjool dates, and a four course BBQ buffet dinner all covered in the base price of AED 250 per person.
Camel riding at Desert Leap Safari is safe for beginners and families. Every dromedary camel (Camelus dromedarius) is trained for guided tourist rides. A Bedouin handler holds the lead rope and walks beside the camel throughout. The riding path is a flat sandy circuit with no dunes, no slopes. Children under 11 share a camel with a parent.
The camel ride duration usually ranges from 20 to 45 minutes, depending on the tour package you choose. Some extended tours may offer longer rides combined with other desert experiences.
Wear lightweight, loose fitting trousers and closed toe flat shoes, no heels, no sandals. Light layers work best; Dubai desert evenings drop to 12°C between December and February. A scarf or shawl covers shoulders during the Bedouin camp cultural segment. Sunglasses and sunscreen are essential for morning departures. Desert Leap provides a complimentary shayla or ghutra headscarf souvenir at camp.
The best time for a Dubai Camel Safari is during the early morning or late afternoon (sunset), when the weather is cooler and the desert views are most beautiful.
