About Camel Riding Safari Dubai
There’s a quiet gap in most Dubai desert safari line-ups, and this tour was built to fill it: a complete desert evening — sunset, camp, BBQ dinner, live shows, the whole beloved programme — with a camel trek at its heart and no dune bashing anywhere in it. If a 4×4 plunging down a dune face is the one thing standing between you (or someone you love) and the desert, this is your page.
The evening unfolds in two graceful halves. First, the trek: after hotel pickup across Dubai and a smooth drive out — no off-roading on this tour, start to finish — you’ll meet your caravan and its handlers at the edge of the dunes for a genuine guided camel ride of around 45 minutes through the open sand. This is the same unhurried, swaying journey our standalone Camel Riding Safari is built around: ridge-top photo pauses, Bedouin heritage shared by guides as you ride, and a route timed so the final crest meets the sunset, with the dunes turning gold and then red around your caravan’s long shadows.
Then, the camp. Your camels deliver you (almost literally) to a Bedouin-style desert camp for the full evening programme: Arabic coffee and dates on arrival, henna painting, traditional costume photos, and a generous BBQ dinner buffet — grilled meats, salads, Arabic mezze, and always vegetarian options — served while the live entertainment runs: Tanoura dance, fire show, and belly dance under the open sky. Shisha is available in the lounge for those so inclined. It’s the identical camp evening that anchors our classic Evening Desert Safari — the only thing missing is the part you specifically didn’t want.
Who is this evening for? Read the list, and you’ll likely find yourself or your travel companion on it. Expecting mothers, for whom dune bashing is off-limits but the desert needn’t be — the smooth transfer and gentle camp evening fit beautifully, with the camel ride optionally swapped for extra camp time. Anyone prone to motion sickness, finally able to say yes to the desert invitation. Seniors and multi-generational families, who get a full shared evening with zero jolts. Toddler families, since under-3s — excluded from dune bashing on every operator’s tours — are excluded from nothing here. And honestly, a growing number of guests who could do the 4×4 drive and simply prefer the desert this way: slower, quieter, closer to how it was experienced for the four thousand years before turbochargers.
A note on choosing between this and its siblings. If you want the trek alone without the dinner, the standalone Camel Riding Safari is shorter and lighter on the wallet. If you want dune bashing and a brief camel loop, the classic evening safari covers both. If your group is split — half wanting throttle, half wanting this — tell us: we regularly land mixed groups at the same camp by different routes, 4x4s one way, caravan the other, reunited at the dinner table with very different stories. And couples who want this gentleness with premium polish can pair the camel arrival with the VIP Desert Safari Dubai‘s reserved lounge, or fold it into the Honeymoon Package Dubai.
The desert doesn’t require adrenaline. It never did. Frequently booked by guests who thought they’d have to skip the desert entirely — and didn’t.

What to Expect
A genuinely smooth evening. This is the only full desert evening we run with no off-road driving whatsoever — the transfer stays on sealed roads, and the dunes are crossed by camel or not at all. Guests who’ve avoided the desert for years over motion sickness consistently tell us this was the page that changed their plans.
The trek. Camels stand back-legs-first with a lurch your handler braces you through; after that, the gait is a slow sway most riders find soothing. Padded saddles, secure handholds, handlers walking alongside throughout. Children from around age 2 ride with a parent.
Non-riders welcome. Anyone in your party who prefers not to ride — or shouldn’t — transfers directly to the camp and meets the caravan on arrival, at an adjusted rate. Pregnant guests usually choose exactly this, keeping the whole evening shared.
The camp. The full classic programme with open seating, a generous buffet, and shows staged for every table. Arrive with the caravan and you’ll walk in right at golden hour, which is the best entrance the camp offers.
Weather. October to April is prime; winter evenings cool quickly after sunset, so pack a layer. Summer dates shift the trek slightly later and lean on the camp’s shaded lounges.
Photography. Caravan silhouettes at sunset, then fire-show light after dark — two of the desert’s three iconic shots in one evening (the third, dawn, belongs to the Sunrise Desert Safari).
Meeting and Pickup
- Pickup areas: All Dubai hotels and residences — Downtown, Marina, JBR, Palm Jumeirah, Deira, Bur Dubai, and Business Bay.
- Pickup timing: Between 3:30 and 4:15 PM, confirmed by WhatsApp the day before; times drift slightly with the season’s sunset.
- Transfers: Comfortable air-conditioned vehicles on sealed roads only — worth repeating for guests choosing this tour for exactly that reason.
- Split groups: Tell us at booking if part of your party wants the 4×4 evening instead — we’ll route them via the Evening Desert Safari and seat everyone together at the camp.
- Contact: Phone and WhatsApp support throughout the evening; driver details shared in advance.
Accessibility
- Wheelchair users: The smooth transfer and the camp’s carpeted core make this our most accessible desert evening; the camel trek itself requires a mounting transfer that handlers can assist but not fully adapt. Contact us — a camp-evening-only version of this tour is straightforward to arrange.
- Strollers: Easy — sealed-road transfer, level camel point, carpeted camp.
- Infants and toddlers: The headline feature: nothing on this tour excludes them. Under-2s join the camp evening; from around age 2, children ride with a parent.
- Seniors: The evening we name first when older travellers ask — full programme, zero jolts, handler support at every step.
- Pregnant guests: The desert evening we recommend by name. The smooth transfer and camp programme fit fully; we suggest skipping the saddle itself (the mounting lurch is the issue) and transferring directly to camp — the evening loses nothing.
- Physical requirements: Riders need only manage the mounting motion and 45 minutes of gentle sway; non-riders need only an appetite.
Additional Information
- Best time to visit: October to April for the golden trek light; December–January sunsets are the postcard. Summer departures run with later timing.
- What to wear: Long comfortable trousers if you’re riding, sandy-tolerant footwear, and a layer for the post-sunset camp. A scarf earns its place in every photo.
- What to bring: Camera, sunscreen for the trek, and small cash for handler tips and camp extras.
- Dietary needs: Vegetarian options are always on the buffet; vegan, gluten-free, and other requirements are handled with advance notice.
- Occasions: The caravan-at-sunset arrival is quietly spectacular for anniversaries and proposals — private two-camel caravans and camp surprises can be arranged. Visitor guidance for the emirate at Visit Dubai.
- Compare and combine: The trek-only version is the Camel Riding Safari; the engine-included classic is the Evening Desert Safari; the full map of options is our Desert Safari Dubai page. Guests who fall for the desert’s slow side often add the Fossil Dunes, Camel Race & Salt Lake Tour next.

Help — Frequently Asked Questions
None — no off-road driving of any kind, in fact. The transfer stays on sealed roads and the dunes are crossed by camel. That's the entire premise of the tour.
It's the desert evening we recommend for exactly that — smooth transfer, full camp programme, nothing excluded. We suggest skipping the saddle itself and transferring directly to camp; the camel's mounting lurch is the only element we'd rule out.
Fully — this is the rare desert evening with no age-based exclusions. Under-2s enjoy the camp; from around age 2, children ride in front of a parent on the trek.
Most packages include hotel pickup, camel riding, BBQ dinner buffet, live entertainment, sunset photography, and traditional desert camp activities.
They transfer directly to the camp at an adjusted rate and meet the caravan on arrival. And if half your group wants dune bashing instead, we'll route them via the Evening Desert Safari and reunite everyone at dinner.
3–4 days normally; winter weekends and private caravans a week ahead — camels, unlike 4x4s, cannot be added to the fleet on demand.
