About
If you only have time for one experience outside the city, make it this one. Our Evening Desert Safari takes you out of Dubai’s skyline and into the red sands of the Lahbab Desert, about 45 minutes from the city centre, for an afternoon and evening that covers everything most travellers picture when they think of a Dubai desert safari: dune bashing in a 4×4, a camel ride at sunset, sandboarding down the slopes, and a BBQ dinner under the stars at a traditional-style desert camp.
The timing is what makes this tour so popular. We schedule pickup for mid-afternoon so you arrive at the dunes when the heat begins to ease and the sand turns a deep orange-red in the lowering sun. By the time the dune bashing ends, you’re standing on a high dune watching the sun set over the Arabian Desert — the single most photographed moment of any Dubai evening safari, and the reason this departure sells out faster than any other slot we run.
This tour suits almost everyone. Families with children, couples, solo travellers, and groups all join the same shared experience, and our drivers adjust the intensity of the dune drive to the passengers in the vehicle. First-time visitors to Dubai choose it because it packs the essential desert activities into a single half-day without eating into hotel or beach time. If you’d prefer the desert without the crowds of an evening departure, our Morning Desert Safari Dubai covers the same dunes in cooler early hours, and our Sunrise Desert Safari is the quietest option of all.
What sets our evening safari apart is the camp itself. After the dunes, you’ll settle into a Bedouin-style desert camp in Dubai with carpeted seating areas, low tables, and open-air majlis lounges. Dinner is a generous BBQ buffet with grilled meats, fresh salads, Arabic mezze, and vegetarian options, served while live entertainment runs through the evening — a Tanoura dance, fire show, and belly dance performance. You can try henna painting, dress in traditional attire for photos, sip Arabic coffee with dates, and smoke shisha in the designated lounge if you wish.
Guests who want more space or a vehicle to themselves can upgrade to our Private Desert Safari, while those after extra comfort and premium service should look at the VIP Desert Safari Dubai. Travelling on a tighter budget? Our budget-friendly evening desert safari keeps the core experience at a lower price point. And if one evening in the dunes isn’t enough, the Overnight Desert Safari lets you sleep at the camp and wake to a desert sunrise.
Hotel pickup and drop-off across Dubai are included, the whole experience runs roughly six to seven hours door to door, and everything at the camp — dinner, shows, and most activities — is covered in one price. It’s the easiest way to experience the desert side of Dubai tourism without planning a thing yourself.

3:00 PM – 3:45 PM | Hotel Pickup Your driver collects you from your hotel or residence in Dubai in an air-conditioned 4×4. Exact pickup time depends on your location and is confirmed the day before.
4:15 PM | Arrival at the Lahbab Desert After a 45-minute drive, we stop at the desert entry point. Guests who pre-booked a quad bike session ride at this point — see our Desert Safari with Quad Bike for the combined package.
4:45 PM | Dune Bashing Around 30–35 minutes of dune bashing across the red dunes. Your driver reads the dunes and the group — tell them if you’d like it gentler or more adventurous.
5:30 PM | Sunset Photo Stop & Sandboarding We stop on a high dune for sunset photos and sandboarding. Take your time — this is the moment everyone remembers.
6:15 PM | Arrival at the Desert Camp Welcome with Arabic coffee and dates. Enjoy your included camel ride, henna painting, and costume photos around the camp.
7:00 PM – 8:30 PM | BBQ Dinner & Live Shows The buffet opens as the entertainment begins: Tanoura dance, fire show, and belly dance under the night sky.

What to Expect
Arrival and the drive out. Your driver will message or call before pickup. The drive to the Lahbab Desert takes about 45 minutes from most Dubai hotels, with a short comfort stop before entering the dunes.
Dune bashing. This is an off-road drive over shifting sand dunes — expect sliding, climbing, and controlled drops. All drivers are licensed for desert driving, vehicles carry roll cages and safety equipment, and seatbelts are mandatory throughout. If anyone in your vehicle prefers a calmer ride, the driver will adjust. Guests prone to motion sickness should sit in the front seat and avoid heavy meals beforehand. If dune bashing is the main event for you, our dedicated Dune Bashing Dubai tour extends the drive time.
Fitness level. No special fitness is required. Activities at the camp are optional, and there’s plenty of comfortable seating for anyone who simply wants to relax with a drink and watch the shows.
Weather. The desert cools quickly after sunset, especially from November to March — bring a light jacket in winter. In summer the evening format is exactly why this tour works: the worst of the heat has passed by the time you reach the dunes.
Photography. Sunset over the red dunes offers the best natural light of the day. Phones and cameras are welcome everywhere, and the camp performers are happy to pose after the shows. For aerial views of the same landscape, many guests pair this safari with a Hot Air Balloon Tour on another morning.
Meeting and Pickup
- Pickup areas: All hotels, apartments, and residences within Dubai city, including Downtown, Dubai Marina, JBR, Deira, Bur Dubai, Business Bay, and Palm Jumeirah.
- Pickup timing: Between 3:00 PM and 3:45 PM depending on your location. Your exact time is confirmed by WhatsApp or phone the day before the tour.
- Shared transfers: Standard bookings use a shared 4×4 with up to six guests per vehicle; the same vehicle does the dune bashing.
- Private transfers: Book a private vehicle for your group at an upgrade, or choose the full Private Desert Safari for a fully exclusive experience.
- Contact: Our team is reachable by phone and WhatsApp on the day of travel. If you can’t locate your driver at pickup time, message us, and we’ll connect you immediately.
Accessibility
- Wheelchair users: The desert terrain and 4×4 vehicles make this tour unsuitable for wheelchair users. Contact us before booking — we can sometimes arrange a modified camp-only experience without dune bashing.
- Strollers: Strollers can be stored in the vehicle and used at the camp, though sand makes pushing difficult.
- Infants: Children under 3 may join the camp experience but cannot take part in dune bashing for safety reasons. Families with infants should consider a private vehicle so the drive can skip the dunes.
- Seniors: Seniors in good health regularly enjoy this tour; we recommend requesting a gentle dune drive.
- Health restrictions: Dune bashing is not recommended for pregnant women, guests with back or neck conditions, heart conditions, or recent surgery. The camp portion remains open to all.
Additional Information
- Best time to visit: October to April offers the most comfortable desert temperatures. Sunset slots during this season book out early — reserve at least a few days ahead.
- What to wear: Light, comfortable clothing and closed shoes or sandals you don’t mind getting sandy. Modest dress is appreciated but not required at the camp.
- What to bring: Sunglasses, a charged phone or camera, a light jacket in winter, and a small amount of cash for optional extras.
- Safety: Always wear your seatbelt during dune bashing and follow your driver’s instructions on the dunes. Desert Leap Safari operates under UAE tourism licensing, and our drivers hold desert driving permits. For general visitor guidance, the official Visit Dubai site is a useful resource.
- Combining tours: Many guests pair this safari with a Dubai City Tour earlier in the trip, or a Dhow Cruise Marina the following evening for a water-side contrast to the desert. Day-trippers heading to the capital can browse our Abu Dhabi City Tour.
- Ramadan note: Entertainment programmes may be adjusted during the holy month; dinner and all activities still run.
