About

Dune bashing is thrilling, but you’re a passenger. On a quad bike, the desert is yours to drive. Our Quad Bike Tour puts you on your own automatic ATV in the red dunes outside Dubai, riding in a small guided convoy across open sand — accelerating up dune faces, cresting ridges, and carving your own lines through the Arabian Desert with a marshal leading the way.

This is the most accessible self-drive experience we offer, and that’s by design. The quads are automatic — throttle, brakes, handlebars, nothing else to think about — so complete beginners are confidently riding within the first ten minutes. Every session starts with a full safety briefing and a practice loop on flat sand before the guide leads the group out into the dunes proper. Helmets and goggles are provided, the convoy rides at the pace of its least experienced member, and guides position themselves so nobody gets left behind or lost over a ridge. Riders aged 16 and up can take their own quad; younger children can ride pillion with a parent on selected machines or take a short supervised loop on the flat — ask when booking.

Sessions run from 30 minutes up to 2 hours of riding time. Thirty minutes is a great taster bolted onto another plan; an hour is the sweet spot most guests choose, long enough to get genuinely comfortable and reach the bigger dunes; two hours is for riders who want a proper desert expedition with photo stops deep in the dune field. Morning sessions get the firmest, grippiest sand — the same conditions that make our Morning Desert Safari Dubai so popular with riders — while late-afternoon sessions finish with sunset over the red dunes.

How does this differ from our other motorised tours? Think of it as a ladder. The quad bike is the approachable classic — easy to learn, genuinely fun, and the best value way to drive the desert yourself. The Can-Am Maverick X3 Dune Buggy Dubai is the top rung: a 200-horsepower side-by-side with a roll cage and racing harnesses for drivers who want maximum capability. And if you’d rather be driven hard than drive, the extended Dune Bashing Dubai tour and the Hummer Desert Safari keep a professional behind the wheel.

The quad session can stand alone — ride, return, done in half a day — or anchor a bigger desert plan. Many guests combine riding with the evening camp: that’s exactly what our Desert Safari with Quad Bike package bundles together, adding dune bashing, the BBQ dinner, and live shows after your ride. Couples and families who want the machines and the timing to themselves can build quad sessions into a Private Desert Safari.

Hotel pickup across Dubai is available on scheduled sessions, or you can self-drive to the desert meeting point if you’ve hired a car. Either way, the riding area is in the open red dunes — not a fenced track — which is the difference guests mention most in reviews. Popular among first-time riders and frequently rebooked by guests who came for thirty minutes and wished they’d taken the hour.

What to Expect

Learning curve. Genuinely short. The quads are automatic, the controls are intuitive, and the practice loop continues until you’re ready — nobody is rushed into the dunes. Most first-timers describe the first ten minutes as cautious and the rest as the best part of their trip.

The riding. Open-desert riding is a different sport from track riding: the sand changes grip constantly, climbs need committed throttle, and the views from the ridge tops are the reward. Guides choose lines that match the group and always take the big features at safe angles.

Safety. Helmets and goggles are mandatory and provided. Convoys keep set spacing, marshals book-end the group, and speeds are managed on descents. Follow the guide’s hand signals and the day takes care of itself. Riding under the influence of alcohol is strictly prohibited.

Physical demands. Moderate. Quads steer with handlebar pressure and a little body lean; an hour of riding works your arms and shoulders more than you expect. Riders should be able to grip firmly and react quickly — no other fitness requirements.

Weather. October to April is prime riding season. In summer, book the earliest morning slot, hydrate seriously, and keep sessions to an hour. Wind raises sand; on windy days goggles earn their keep and a scarf or buff is a smart addition.

What it’s not. This is riding-focused — no camel rides, camp, or dinner. For the full evening with entertainment, take the combo package or browse everything on our Desert Safari Dubai page.

Meeting and Pickup

  • Pickup areas: All Dubai hotels and residences, including Downtown, Marina, JBR, Palm Jumeirah, Deira, and Business Bay — pickup is an optional extra on this tour.
  • Self-drive option: Driving yourself? We’ll send a pinned location for the desert meeting point on the Dubai–Hatta side; free parking on site.
  • Session times: Morning (from 8:30 AM), midday, afternoon, and sunset slots daily. Sunset sells out first.
  • Group size: Convoys are kept small — typically 6–10 riders per guide pair.
  • Contact: WhatsApp and phone support before and during your session; the meeting pin and guide contact are shared at booking.

Accessibility

  • Wheelchair users: Quad riding requires independent control of handlebars and brakes and is not wheelchair accessible; contact us about passenger-based desert experiences instead.
  • Strollers/infants: The riding area is unsuitable for infants. Families with small children should look at the camp-based Evening Desert Safari.
  • Children: Solo riding from age 16 with a parent or guardian present; supervised flat-sand loops and pillion options for younger children on request.
  • Seniors: Welcome with good grip strength and mobility; choose a 30-minute session first.
  • Physical requirements: Not suitable during pregnancy, or for guests with back, neck, or heart conditions, or recent surgery. Riders must be able to mount the quad unassisted.

Additional Information

  • Best time to visit: October to April for temperature; morning slots for sand quality; sunset slots for scenery.
  • What to wear: Closed shoes (mandatory), long comfortable trousers, and a top you don’t mind dusting. Sunglasses for the transfer, goggles on the ride.
  • What to bring: Sunscreen, a buff or scarf for windy days, and a strap or zip pocket for your phone — loose items don’t survive the dunes.
  • Documents: No driving licence is required for the desert riding area, but bring photo ID; riders under 18 need a guardian’s signature.
  • Booking advice: Sunset hours are limited by daylight and book out 3–4 days ahead in winter. Morning slots are the easy ones to get.
  • Round out the trip: Riders often pair a morning session with an afternoon Dubai City Tour, or go bigger the next day in a Can-Am Maverick X3 dune buggy. Official visitor guidance is available from Visit Dubai.

Yes — that's our Desert Safari with Quad Bike package: your ride, then dune bashing, sunset, BBQ dinner, and live shows in one evening.

The quad is a sit-on ATV you balance and steer with handlebars — easy and playful. The dune buggy is a 200-hp side-by-side with a roll cage, harness, and steering wheel — far more power and capability, at a higher price.
